Being from Denver, I was born a Broncos fan. It couldn’t be helped. You’re born here, you’re in the club. Orange hair and placing John Elway in hero status.
Last week I saw Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler announced he has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. You don’t see a lot of athletes with diabetes, at least Type 1, given the demands of exercise, nutrition, and insulin issues. It got me thinking about the types of changes this 25 years old will have to assume to protect his love of the game, multi-million dollar paycheck, and the collective hopes of thousands of front range Bronco fans.
The glycemic index is well regarded for its treatment and insulin awareness for diabetics. Whether Mr. Cutler officially adopts a diet born of the ‘glycemic’ index name is unknown, but what’s a certainty with type 1 diabetes is that this will be a lifelong commitment and change. Whatever dietary and nutritional changes he makes, they’ll share the low GI awareness foundations we benefit from with the glycemic diet.
Now if we can just get him to take us back to the playoffs and beat the Chargers.

Is it just me or is dieting a lot like dating?
Most are falsely advertised. Pictures are deceiving and lie. And just when you think you’re on the right track a holiday makes it all turn upside down.

The holidays are over. As fun as sitting on the couch and gorging myself on turkey, rolls, and mashed potatoes was, I’m seeing the results of my self indulgence.
I should know better. High glycemic or not, it’s hard to resist large platters of big, free, welcoming food. It’s like the rolls of processed white flower rolls we’re just calling to me. And I gained 4 pounds in 2 days. That’s 1 pound a day. Almost an ounce an hour. Geeze…
Time to get started again. The beauty of the glycemic index is it’s like a friend there waiting for you. I’ll get back on track again, but what a quick blitz of calories that was.
To be honest, I don’t even like turkey much. We live on a farm (sort of) and actually raised our own birds this year. About 6 months of nurturing, feeding, and watering. The turkey themselves of course aren’t the problem - no carb or hidden surgar there - it’s the extra fixings.
Who invented this holiday anyway? The football watching is great. The food gorging is fun, but what a hassle we’re left with after the fact. Now I feel fat, tired, and bloated.
At least I got to watch football. If I’m going to gain weight, at least I got to watch Colorado beat up on Nebraska. Time to get back to watching my foods and eating healthy again… 4 weeks until the Christmas feeding season.

This will be the start of my stories. I’ve followed a low glycemic index diet for 2 years - and it’s honestly one of the easiest and most rewarding plans I’ve ever tried.
It’s not hype. It’s not a hoax or a diet pill. What a joke those are - an excuse for the ill informed and marketing machines to hype up nothing.
This is a lifestyle diet - it works. I’m living proof.
My stories and experiences are real - I hope you enjoy them!
Be sure to check out the helpful glycemic index chart to check out which foods score high (or low) on the GI Index.
